Auto Insurers Halt Measures to Help Customers During COVID-19

Maginnis Howard continues to monitor corporations offering COVID relief. For that reason, we updated this article on May 27th, 2022.

Auto insurers briefly offered relief packages for customers. These efforts began in 2020, but it appears they are no longer active. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Allstate reports it refunded $1 billion through its “Shelter-in-Place Payback”. The refund applied to the months of April, May, and June of 2020. The program is no longer in use.

American Family Insurance issued an “Auto Premium Relief Credit” to its customers from 2020 through the spring of 2021. The insurer returned roughly $530 million in premium relief to its auto insurance customers.

Our firm will continue to monitor the situation and provide any further information about refunds or discounts during the pandemic. Although we are now years into the crisis, we are still vigilant for opportunities to help consumers.

If you or someone you know ends up being impacted by your auto insurers provider not following through on their pre-announced procedures during COVID-19, we may be able to help.
