What is IQ Data International?

IQ Data International, Inc. is a legitimate Washington-based debt collector specializing in multi-family residential properties. Management companies hire IQ Data to collect outstanding debts from tenants. The company was established in 2003 and formerly operated under the name RentCollect Global.

Assurant, Inc, the corporation’s parent company, is an international insurance corporation that traces its roots to 1892. Assurant lists IQ Data International as its “consumer portal,” where delinquent tenants can pay the debt collector on behalf of the individual property management company.

Complaints

Despite 20 years in business, the company is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. IQ Data International’s profile has over 150 complaints, and the company’s rating is 1.05/5. Consumers on this and other sites allege the company is violating consumer debt collection laws. The collector is not a scam, but its practices are considered inappropriate by many consumers online.

2023 Lawsuit

A lawsuit filed earlier this year alleges that IQ Data International, hired by a property management company, violated federal debt collection laws in pursuit of a debt. The former tenant owed $748 to the property management company, but the collection agency demanded $1,910.94 and a $50 monthly fee while the account was under review. The tenant directly paid $748 to the property management company and provided evidence to IQ. However, the debt collector continued to pursue the plaintiff for the nearly $2,000 debt. In doing so, the plaintiff alleges, IQ violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

FDCPA Violations

The FDCPA protects consumers from abusive debt collectors and collection practices. Several lawsuits against IQ Data International, Inc. cite violations of this federal law. The most common complaints include the following:

• Falsely attempting to collect debts
• Falsely representing debts by charging the wrong amount
• Using false, deceptive, and misleading representations of the debt to secure payment
