Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools recently announced the Teacher of the Year, Teaching Assistant of the Year, and finalists. At Charles G. Monnett III & Associates, we are always proud of the stars in our communities and look for ways to thank them. Teachers frequently spend their own money on supplies for their students to learn and explore the topics they teach. We’re excited to say our law firm was able to donate gift cards to these amazing local educators to give back!
During a May 5th celebration at East Mecklenburg High, the two winners were announced:
- 201 CMS Teacher of the Year Demeka Kimpson: Demeka is the band director at Sedgefield Middle School and the 2021 CMS Teacher of the Year. She has been teaching for 19 years, with 16 of those years at Sedgefield, so it is an understatement to say that local parents and students know and love her. Demeka brings life and laughter to her classroom and helps inspire children to explore their musical talents. She considers herself a woodwind specialist due to her undoubted abilities with the clarinet, flute, and saxophone.
- 2021 CMS Teacher Assistant of the Year Stephanie Donnis: Stephanie is a teacher assistant at Druid Hills Academy and the 2021 CMS Teacher Assistant of the Year. She is nearing her 10-year mark as a teacher assistant at Druid Hills Academy, having lived in Charlotte for more than 40 years. Stephanie primarily works with second-grade students, but most anyone at the academy knows all about her and her friendly approach to her work. Dr. Carla Mathis, the principal of Druid Hills, commented that Stephanie regularly conducts home visits to help ensure students are getting the encouragement they need to succeed at home as well as in the classroom.
Congratulations to both Demeka and Stephanie for these incredible achievements! Charles G. Monnett III & Associates wanted to make the occasion even more special by donating a $500 gift card to each Teacher of the Year finalist and another $1,200 in gift cards for Demeka Kimpson. We also donated a $300 gift card to each Teacher Assistant of the Year finalist and another $700 in gift cards for Stephanie Donnis.
Once again, from everyone at our law firm, we thank all the teachers, teacher assistants, and other educators in our communities who brighten the days of so many local children. The world is a better place because of what you do!
