Teachers are unsung heroes, the leaders of future generations and the molders of young minds. However, these educators might often be overlooked when resources are limited. The legal team at Charles G. Monnett III & Associates hopes to give exceptional teachers the recognition they deserve this year as the primary sponsor of the I AM CMS Award program.
The I AM CMS award is offered to employees of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system for their extraordinary contribution to the school system mission. The program began during the 2016 school year with the first award winner Sgt. Brian Edwards, a Junior ROTC program director from Mallard Creek High School.
“You always think you are doing a good job in anywhere you work, and to have an actual colleague to recognize that you’re doing an exceptional job and to nominate you for something like the I Am CMS award, I thought it was just a magnificent opportunity for me and it was an awesome opportunity for my students. To see me work hard every day and to get recognized for it was just a special moment,” said Edwards
Mr. Monnett and his firm believe that recognizing excellence within the school system is especially important, as teachers have one of the most vital roles in our society.
“I think it’s critical for morale in the public education system for teachers to be recognized for the extraordinary effort that they put forth on behalf of educating our children. I don’t think they get enough credit; they certainly don’t get enough credit in terms of the resources that are allocated to the school system.”
Lauren Newton, also of Charles G. Monnett III & Associates, said “As a mom who will be sending a child to public school next year, it makes me feel good to know there are people who really care about our kids. This is a small way to say thank you to those individuals who go above and beyond for our youth.”
Winners of the award receive a $100 gift card from sponsors Charles G. Monnett & Associates, an Official I AM CMS t-shirt and a professionally photographed poster to be displayed at his or her school.
Edwards wants his colleagues to pass the torch by nominating fellow outstanding teachers for the award.
“I do encourage those that see their colleagues doing outstanding work, nominate them, for the I AM CMS award, because it’s an awesome opportunity and it’s a great award and I was just…you can see my smile, I was just excited to receive it.”
