Charles G. Monnett III & Associates recently renewed our statewide sponsorship of the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina and we want to encourage others to join this wonderful cause.
The Brain Injury Association of North Carolina (BIANC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit membership organization that advocates on behalf of individuals with brain injury and their families. It was founded in 1982 by families and professionals who were concerned or had been affected by traumatic brain injuries. The organizations help provide information, support and hope to those who have been affected by a brain injury. Currently, BIANC has Brain Injury Resource Centers in Raleigh, Charlotte, Greenville, Asheville, and in Winston-Salem.
In the U.S. an estimated 1.5 to 2 million people suffer a traumatic brain injury each year. Approximately 70,000 to 90,000 of those individuals incur a TBI resulting in a long-term, substantial loss of functioning. Additionally, there are approximately 300,000 hospital admissions annually for persons with mild or moderate TBI, and an unknown number of traumatic brain injuries that are not diagnosed but may result in long-term disability. Persons who have sustained a brain injury often need specialized rehabilitation and life long services and support to maintain an optimal lifestyle. However, obtaining this kind of care and learning to cope with the long-term effects of the injury can be difficult.
This is why organizations such as BIANC are essential. They have extensive resources to help individuals find specialized care and provide a supportive community to encourage maximum recovery. To learn more about BIANC and how to get involved visit their website at www.bianc.net
