What to Expect on the Roads When N.C. Students Go Back to School

Most schools in the Charlotte area and the rest of N.C. will be back in session starting this week. Students attending public schools will be going back on Thursday and most private schools will be starting back on Tuesday or Wednesday. While this is an exciting time for all the students returning from a long summer break, it is usually a dreadful time for all the commuters traveling to work in the morning.

Now that schools are starting back everyone can expect slower traffic in the mornings and can plan on leaving their homes a little earlier. The onslaught of school buses on the roads, multiple school zones to drive through, and even some students walking to bus stops and campuses can not only slow down traffic, but they also pose many safety issues.

It is important for drivers to remember all the rules of the road concerning school buses and school zones. While we may not like the fact that they slow down our commute, these rules are in place for a reason. The safety of our children should always be given the highest priority and that’s why it’s important for us to stop for school buses and not speed through school zones. Getting to work on time is important, but it’s not worth another person’s life.
